4 Paws Up for 4-Legger

If you’re like me, you’re picky about the products you use on your dogs. Ever since Bolt had a severe reaction to over-vaccinating and over-medicating, I’ve been increasingly conscious of what I put into and onto his body. I started looking at labels more than I had before. I found that most of the items I was using had words that I couldn’t even pronounce.  The ingredient list took up half of the bottle. In the past year I’ve learned that the shorter the list, the better. And that, “all natural and organic” doesn’t really mean what it says. Only 25% of the product in that bottle has to fit that criteria to have those words written on the label. state-tournament-4leggerz-449

When 4Legger reached out to me, I had my reservations. Was this all its cracked up to be? How are they any different than any other “natural and organic” brand? Browsing Continue reading “4 Paws Up for 4-Legger”

10 Lessons from Pet Fooled Documentary

First Thoughts

Prior to watching Pet Fooled I knew that feeding raw was the healthiest option for my dogs. However, I only started feeding raw a couple years ago so I’m definitely not the perfect example. I was fooled by the dog food companies just as much as anyone else. I went with the “natural”, gluten-free, grain-free, soy free, corn-free foods too. No matter what I bought, Bolt was still throwing up stomach bile on a daily basis. He did this for almost 4 years before I learned about raw feeding. Since then I’ve noticed a change in his overall health and behavior.Pet Fooled documentary about what's really in our pets food.

I ordered Pet Fooled because I wanted Continue reading “10 Lessons from Pet Fooled Documentary”

Essential Oils for You & Your Dog

4th-of-july-titos-vodka-279Who else has witnessed their dog eat grass, only to throw up a few minutes later? We yell at them to “stop it” but they continue to go back for more. You’d think they would learn their lesson right!?! Well, they have learned their lesson and the lesson is, they do it on purpose. Hahaha! They ate the grass knowing, and hoping, that they would throw up after. Without even realizing it, your dog just used grass as medicine. Here me out. Bolt’s Milestone Moment

In May of last year (2016) I took Bolt to a new dog trainer for the first time. She was recommended to us by our holistic veterinarian. I was told that she works a lot with reactive and aggressive dogs, which is exactly what we’ve struggled with for 4 years years. Immediately, I contacted Tiffany at Avaqyn Acres and said, “I’ve heard you’re a miracle worker and we need to make an appointment.”

Bolty sure is lucky he’s cute.

She encouraged me to come observe her Good Dog Manners class. I did. And I thought “there is no freakin’ way that Bolty will make it through this class”! There were 10 other dogs in the room. Bolt would Continue reading “Bolt’s Milestone Moment”

DIY Paw Wax

If you follow any major pet Facebook pages you’ve seen Rodney Habib’s (creator of Planet Paws) paw wax video floating around. Well, I tried it and its just as easy and amazing as it looked. It takes four ingredients and 15 minutes to make. Paw wax is used to protect your dogs paws from the snow, slush, salt, chemicals and ice that comes along with these cold winter months. However, once I thought about it more, it should really be used year round. After all, it takes some fancy chemicals to kill weeds and mosquitoes that drive us crazy in the summer.

If you are at home right now, take 10 seconds to go touch your dogs paw pads. Are they dry? Rough? Cracked? Continue reading “DIY Paw Wax”

DIY Doggy Shampoo

Poor Torque is too fluffy for his own good. He cannot make it through a meal without getting raw meat stuck in his face fur. Hahah! I sometimes wipe it off with a rag, but if I’m totally honest, I usually just leave it. He eventually snacks on it later. Lately, I’ve noticed that the raw meat smell has lingered with him. So it was time to make my first batch of doggy shampoo with my newest obsession, Young Living Essential Oils for my dogs!

The ingredients are Continue reading “DIY Doggy Shampoo”

4 Protein Sources a Week…You Got This!

If you’ve read our 5 Steps to Feeding Raw you saw that your dogs should get protein from at least four different sources per week. And you might have panicked a little bit. I did! This can sound very overwhelming but don’t be scared. If I can handle it, and Brent can, than you can. Haha! We lead busy lives so I’ve had to get creative and try a few different meal-prep ideas before I’ve found what works best. To be honest, there may even be a better way but so far, this is what I like.

Raw dog food with beef and pork mix including; meat, bone and organ.

Step 1: Order the Food

I order from Raw Delivery MN. They deliver a variety of raw meat, bone, organ, Continue reading “4 Protein Sources a Week…You Got This!”
